About

Yuwen Huang is a ceramic artist born in Taiwan and based in Paris. Since discovering her passion for ceramics in 2016, she has dedicated herself to the craft, blending technical mastery with artistic expression. Her work reflects a deep respect for materials and their transformation, resulting in pieces that are as functional as they are sculptural.

Every piece by Yuwen Huang is one of a kind. She uses clay that she shapes on the wheel before altering forms by hand-cutting, creating objects with a distinctive character. The clay is fired at a high temperature of 1250°C, ensuring durability and depth in texture and color. A key aspect of her practice is her commitment to sustainability: she recycles and reuses clay whenever possible, minimizing waste and adhering to a philosophy of zero loss.

The development of glazes is central to Yuwen’s artistic exploration. She meticulously experiments with wood ash, blending it with mineral-based materials to create subtle and unexpected surface effects. This process, born from her personal studies, results in pieces that possess an organic quality and a refined, textural color palette. Yuwen continues to innovate and explore in her studio, creating poetic and minimalist objects that celebrate craftsmanship and tell a deeply personal story.
